Shaw Bargaining Update #6 – Other developments affecting bargaining

In addition to agreeing to proceed to conciliation to continue our efforts to bargain a fair and respectful collective agreement, on April 24, 2018, the Union filed an application at the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to obtain an order that employees working as In Business Technicians (IBTs) are in the Union's bargaining unit and that Shaw is required to bargain with us about their terms and conditions of employment.
 
All of this is necessary because Shaw has refused to acknowledge that the IBTs are in our bargaining unit and has refused to negotiate with the Union about the terms and conditions of employment for these employees.
 
Shaw will have fifteen (15) days to file their response to our complaint. We will have ten (10) days to file a reply.
 
The Board has appointed an Industrial Relations Officer to assist the parties in reaching a settlement on this matter. If necessary, the CIRB may schedule a hearing prior to rendering its decision.
